Art Canvas Challenge

Art Canvas Challenge

What do your kids do during Thanksgiving break? It can be challenging to keep them occupied without relying on the screen or loosing your marbles. A week off seems like a long time but we are very excited to have time together without the regularly scheduled programming. Last year, over the span of a couple of days, the girls and I worked on creating a family masterpiece. Each day we used a different art medium to completely cover a white canvas. It is one of our favorite memories so are going to do the same thing this year. I am sharing our day by day guide so you can recreate this in your home.

Mommy Monday: Why it's important to include kids in the kitchen.

Mommy Monday: Why it's important to include kids in the kitchen.

Monday, Monday! I am learning to tame the chaos with a solo cup of coffee to gather my thoughts before the girls wake up and yoga, lots of yoga. Did you see my yoga giveaway on Instagram? Monday is also a great day for the girls and I to work together in the kitchen. My youngest daughter, who I call “Little Miss” has been making my lunch and asked me to film her. In today’s post, I’m sharing my thoughts on getting kids in the kitchen, how I let the girls help at home, and our tuna salad recipe.

Mommy Monday: Sushi and a Story

Mommy Monday: Sushi and a Story

Some Mondays I am ready to charge ahead and some seem to be a whirlwind of chaos. Mondays seem to be a day that most moms I know can use a little more support so I aim to share weekly ideas on simple projects to do with young kiddos. Today I'm sharing a great snack to make with your kiddos at home, my version of "kid only sushi" as I called it in my class. I encourage you to make both the green (aka healthy) roll as well as the sweet treat. Let your kids get their hands dirty and have fun rolling their own food. Make it a longer activity and check out the book recommendations as well.

Mommy Monday: Slowing Down & Showing Up, European Style

I love Mondays because it is a fresh start. It is the day to kick off the week with the best foot forward and set the pace for the days that follow. Mondays tend to be my day off to just be a mommy. So today I am sharing a few simple activities (that I learned from the Europeans) that I am doing to slow down and show up.

Salt dough ornaments

Salt dough ornaments

After years of working with children in the kitchen it is fun to share my experience with my girls at home in our own kitchen. It is crazy how I can have so much patience at YCA but find myself having to take a breath and consciously wait with my own girls. I have to remind myself to apply the same principals at home as I do at work which is to let the kids jump and work 100% hands on without trying to intervene or correct too much. Even if that means flour flies everywhere and dough is smashed into the granite. Everything can be cleaned and at the end of the day it's worth it if it means they are being empowered to explore and create in the kitchen. So for our project today, the girls are sharing how to make salt dough ornaments.
