This time of year we often find ourselves running from one gathering to the next to try to soak in as much of the holiday spirit as possible. While it is fun to visit with friends this time of year, it can be stressful to remember a gift for the hostess. Since my mama taught me that you absolutely can NOT show up to someone's house empty handed, I try to gather a few gift items ahead of time to have ready to bring with me. I love to shop local when possible, so most of the items on the list are created by local artisans and sold at local small business shops.
Hostess Gift Ideas:
Coffee Table Book- Pick a topic that your host is interested in. If your host loves to cook, you can't go wrong with a cook book but why not pick something random and frivolous, about a subject they might otherwise never buy themselves. A good friend spontaneously gave me a Glamping book and it made my day. There are so many great finds at The Foundry Collective and Anthropologie.
Enzo's Olive Oil- This is the gift of liquid gold. The olives are grown right here in the Valley and crushed to make the tastiest Olive Oil that even Tyler Florence is proud to endorse. You can stop by Enzo's Table to pick up a bottle to possibly get a tasting and meet the maker. It is also for sale at William's Sonoma, 500 Target stores, and other grocery stores here in town. Better yet, make a batch of Olive Oil Lemon Drop Cookies to give with the bottle of Lemon Infused Olive oil. (Recipe coming this week).
Wrapped Up Cutting Board- Pick out your favorite cutting board and use a pretty ribbon to add a few goodies like bread or wine.. William Sonoma has darling marble cutting boards with a gold monogram letters. A local artisan, Graham Cracker, makes beautiful, unique cutting boards. Pick up a loaf of bread from La Boulangerie in Fig Garden & your favorite bottle of wine and your hostess will sure fill loved. We have a lot of local wineries to choose from too.
A local locale Candle- The Urban Umbrella in Old Town Clovis is home to great gift items from macrame potted plants, to kitchy cards, and clothes. I was particularly drawn to the candles- Beachwood & Sea Salt- you can't go wrong.
Santa's Soap- Basilwood Farms is a special little getaway as your drive through the foothills off the 168. If you haven't had a chance to visit I would definitely recommend a trip (but make sure to check out the hours of operation first). The goat milk soap is art in and of itself- the colors, swirls, glitter, and scent. It's almost too pretty to use. In fact, I have a confession, the first bar of soap I bought from them years ago is still fully intact in my bathroom because it smells so good and is too pretty to use. If you can't make the drive to pick up your items, you can purchase the soap at Pum Bum in Riverpark.
Trinket Bowls- Did you know these adorable little bowls are from right here in the Valley?! The Painted Press offers up a unique gift for your favorite hostess. You can pick up one of these cute gifts from Root General, downtown Fresno or order directly from the artist online.
Deck the Walls- with a lovely watercolor print from Natasha Holland. I have had the pleasure of taking a painting class from Natasha and while I learned that I am not Picasso, I had a blast learning from her. She is incredibly talented and makes beautiful art. Pick up a print of California or even Fresno or Clovis to present to your hostess.
The Perfect Pout- If your hostess is as obsessed with lipgloss as I am, I can guarantee this is the perfect gift for her. This lipgloss trio from Beautycounter offers up 3 shades of nude gloss that is perfect to wear alone or over a favorite lipstick. The best part is all ingredients are safe, hydrating with Vitamin E, and do not contain synthetic fragrances.
Shake It Up- a festive Martini shaker for your favorite bartender. With a cute saying, gold confetti, and gold lid, It doesn't come much cuter than this. This is the perfect gift for your girls night out hostess. It is available to purchase on my site shortly.
