Red, White, & Blue JELL-O treats

I don't know what it is about July 4th but it summons our inner child and compels us to serve our adult beverages in the form of JELL-O. Is it our way of harkening back to the care free days of Summer as a child? Whatever the reason may be, I enjoy a good JELL-O shot like the rest of them. Rather than making them in plastic sample cups, try out this recipe to spruce up your tried and true JELL-O shots. Of course you can make these kid friendly or add in liquor to spice up your backyard party.

Patriotic JELL-O Shot for 4th of July- www.ChefShayna.com

This recipe is very simple but requires a little bit of time to put together. Most of the time is spent waiting for the JELL-O to set so allow for at least 2 hours before the party starts or better yet, make them the day before.

July 4th JELL-O Shots

Blue Layer:

  • 1 box of Berry Blue JELL-O
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 cup Vodka (optional)

White Layer:

  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 can Sweetened Condensed Milk
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup White Chocolate Liqueur (optional)
  • 3 packets Knox Gelatin

Red Layer

  • Strawberry or Cherry JELL-O
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 cup Vodka (optional)

1. Prepare Blue JELL-O according to package directions (substitute in 1 cup of preferred liquor for an adult beverage). Fill shot glass 1/3 full. Place glass in muffin tin so glasses are at an angle. Place the muffin tray in the fridge to quick set the jello for at least 30 minutes.

2. White layer: In a saucepan bring 1 cup water to boil, stir in sugar and sweetened condensed milk until well combined. Remove from heat. In a separate bowl stir White Chocolate Liqueur (or 1/2 cup water for non-alcoholic version) with 3 packets of gelatin until dissolved. Pour into cooled milk mixture and stir until combined. Pour into shot glasses until 2/3 full. Keep glasses upright and place tray back into fridge to set for 30 minutes.

3. Prepare Red JELL-O according to package directions. Top the glass with Red mixture and put back into the fridge until set.

Serve cold and enjoy!

Happy 4th of July!
